Consultant Solicitor, Chair of Governers, Trust Board Member and Non-Executive Directorships

Ruby is a highly successful Solicitor with over 27 years’ experience in the legal field. She has over 25  years’ experience of various Non-Executive Directorships, including previous Chair of a BME Housing Association. Her other Non-Executive roles include a social enterprise company, Carlisle Business Centre (CBC) and its charity arm ACL Ltd.  She is also a Director of Yorkshire Arise Ltd, a unique company that has four social enterprise companies working together in Bradford on key projects. She has recently been appointed on the Bradford Youth Development Board as a Non Executive Director.

Ruby is previous board Member in the Social Housing sector for Incommunities Group Ltd and Firebird Homes Ltd and previous Chair for Manningham Housing Association.

Previously a National Leader of Governance for Education (NLG) for Yorkshire and the Humber,  a Non Executive Director for the  Dixon Multi Academies Trust Ltd , Rainbow Academy, and BDAT Diocesan Academies Trust. She is also a panel member for Bradford Local Authority Education Appeals Admission Panel. She is Chair for 3 primary schools which includes a Bradford Local Authority school and Chair for a secondary school.  She is a Trustee for the Bradford Youth Development project which supports youth from 8-30 years old.

She is Vice Chair and Governance lay member  for the NHS Bradford City CCG and is the Chair of the Primary Care Commissioning Committee and Remuneration Committee for Bradford City NHS CCG.

Ruby is Chair of the Wolfson Centre for Applied Research;Chair for the Quality and Safety Patient’s Panel based at Bradford Institute for Health and Research (BIHR) and board member for the  NIHR Applied Research Collaboration Yorkshire and Humber.

Ruby is a NIHR Public Reviewer and and Member of Covid-19 Patient and Public Involvement Network for NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) in addition to a NIHR UPH (Urgent Public Health) PPI reviewer.

She sits as an Associate Hospital Manager for the Mental Health Department, Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust, a role which enables patients to have their case considered independently. She also sits on the Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust, Mental  Health  Legislative Committee.

She has supported  students and staff at the University  of Bradford since early 2007. Within the University Ruby sits on the Service User Advisory Board advising on strategy and policy for Service User and Carer involvement in the health faculty. Ruby provides the Faculty with a wealth of expertise and knowledge gained through her broad portfolio of involvement. She brings legal knowledge of policy and practice outside the University to inform not only the work of the Service User and Carer Group, but also the governance arrangements of the Faculty. She recently been appointed a Faculty Community Fellow for the Faculty of management, law and life sciences for the University.

She is a Patient & Carer and Law Associate Lecturer at the University of Bradford with an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) status.

She was awarded an OBE by the Queen in the New Years Honours  list 2019 in  housing and young people.

In November 2020 Ruby was awarded honorary doctorate from University of Bradford.

In August 2023 Ruby was appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant for West Yorkshire.
